As the Council’s own planning documents have indicated, Red Frog’s gardens, trees and hedges provide the vital conduit for wildlife between the Heath and our area of Hampstead, as well as being an important component of our quality of life.
It is a fragile ecosystem, which is steadily being eroded by a combination of off-street parking and building extensions – developments which, cumulatively, have reduced the area available to wildlife over the last ten years. This is due in no small part to the fact that single-occupancy dwellings are exempt from the normal planning process.
To preserve what is left of the RedFrog green heritage for future generations, we believe it is necessary for single-occupancy dwellings to obtain planning consent for development just like any other properties in the Conservation Area. To this end we are asking Camden Council to apply to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to seek Article 4 Directions in respect of Red Frog’s gardens.
We hope we can count on your support in any forthcoming consultation exercise.
